The best Enhancv alternative depends on why you are leaving. If you love the designs and only mind the price, another design-led builder does the same job, and the honest move may be to stay. If the seven-day free plan ran out before your search did, or you already have a finished resume and what you need is the wording for each posting, a builder is the wrong shape of tool. In that case a per-application writer such as InstaResume covers the part you were actually paying for, with no trial clock. This guide sets out what Enhancv includes, who should stay with it, and where each alternative fits.

Every figure about Enhancv here was read on enhancv.com’s own home page and pricing page as of September 2026. Their pricing table fills in its amounts in the browser, so confirm the price at checkout in your own currency before you pay.

The short verdict, as of September 2026

  • Stay with Enhancv if you are building a resume from scratch and the look of the document matters to you. Its design tools are the product, and they are good.
  • Pick another design-led builder if you want the same kind of tool on different terms. Our Kickresume review and Rezi review cover the two closest.
  • Pick a per-application writer if the resume already exists and the work left is rewriting it for each job. That is what InstaResume does, and the free tools need no account.

The question to answer first is whether you need a document or the words inside it. Enhancv sells the document. Most people who search for an alternative after a week of applications need the words.

What Enhancv is, in its own words

Enhancv describes itself on its home page as a resume builder with “AI Resume Writer, ATS Check, and One-Click Job Tailoring”. Its pricing page frames the tailoring feature this way:

Simply copy and paste the job ad in our builder and we’ll show you what you need to include in order to pass the ATS screening.

So Enhancv does have a tailoring step. It lives inside the builder, and it shows you what to include. The resume you tailor is the one you built in Enhancv, in Enhancv’s editor.

Beyond the builder, its navigation lists a resume checker, a cover letter builder, a job tracker, a job board, AI mock interviews and a Chrome extension. That breadth is part of what you pay for.

What Enhancv costs

The pricing page shows two plans. The page title states the headline figure: “Resume Builder Starting from $16.50 and 7-Day Free Plan”.

PlanWhat the page listsDuration or billing
Free PlanAll resume templates, basic resume sections, Enhancv branding, maximum 12 section items, access to all design tools”Valid for 7 days”
Pro Quarterly300 resumes and cover letters, real-time content suggestions, ATS check, pro sections, no branding, unlimited section items”billed every 3 months”

Two things in that table decide most switching questions:

  • The free plan is a clock. It is valid for seven days. If your search runs for a month, you either pay or stop.
  • Pro is sold by the quarter. The page presents the paid plan as Pro Quarterly, billed every three months. You commit to a quarter even if you land a job in week two.

The FAQ also answers the Word question directly: “Our resumes download as a PDF”. If a recruiter or portal asks for a DOCX, Enhancv’s answer is no.

These two tools do different jobs, so the table is about fit rather than a winner.

Who should stay with Enhancv

Enhancv is the better choice for a real set of people, and switching would cost them something:

  • You do not have a resume yet. A builder with guided sections and templates is the right starting point. A writing tool assumes the document exists.
  • Design is part of the pitch. In fields where the page itself is judged, the design options earn their price.
  • You want one workspace. If you will use the tracker, the checker, the cover letter builder and the interview practice together, one subscription for all of it can be simpler than several tools.
  • Your search is short and concentrated. One quarter of Pro during an intense month of applications is a reasonable spend.

If that is you, stay. An alternative will not make the design better.

Who should switch, and to what

This is the most common reason people look elsewhere. A seven-day window rewards one focused evening and penalises anyone applying a few times a week. The alternatives split on how they handle free use:

  • A builder with a different free tier. Kickresume and Rezi are builders sold on different terms; our Kickresume pricing and Rezi pricing breakdowns list what each free tier includes.
  • A writer with no clock. InstaResume’s tool pages give 3 generations a day without an account, and a free account adds 5 saved generations, granted once. Neither runs on a trial window.

If your resume is finished and the work is per-application

This is the case where a builder is the wrong tool. You are not short of a template. You are short of the paragraph that connects your experience to this posting’s language, and you need it again for the next posting tomorrow.

InstaResume is built for exactly that step. You paste what you have actually done and, optionally, the job posting. It returns a tailored cover letter or a set of resume bullet points that draw their keywords from the posting and stay grounded in your real background. It does not invent employers or numbers. You copy the bullets into the resume you already have, or export the cover letter as PDF or DOCX.

That is a narrower tool than Enhancv, on purpose. It has no templates, no tracker and no mock interviews. If you need those, keep a builder. If you only need the words, you are paying builder prices for a rewriting job.

If you want a match score rather than a rewrite

Some people leaving Enhancv mainly used the ATS check. A dedicated scanner is the closer replacement there. Our Jobscan alternative guide covers when a score helps and when you need the words instead, and Rezi vs Teal compares two tools that pair a score with a workspace.

If you need a Word file

Enhancv’s FAQ says its resumes download as a PDF. Some application portals and recruiters ask for DOCX so they can edit or re-format. If that has come up in your search, choose a tool with DOCX export. InstaResume exports both.

Job searches rarely fit a billing period neatly. Here is how the two billing shapes play out, using only the figures each company publishes:

Length of searchEnhancvInstaResume
One weekFree Plan covers it, if you finish inside 7 daysFree tool pages and 5 free account generations may cover it
One monthOne Pro Quarterly period, billed for three monthsOne month of Pro at $9, or free if your volume is low
Three monthsOne Pro Quarterly periodThree months of Pro, cancelled when you land the job

The quarterly bill is the part that surprises people. If your search ends early, the quarter is already paid. A monthly plan you can cancel costs only the months you use.

How to switch from Enhancv

Switching does not mean losing your work. The steps:

  1. Download your resume from Enhancv as a PDF while your plan is active, so you are not relying on its free window to get the file out.
  2. Keep that PDF as your base document. If you want to keep editing its layout in Word or Google Docs, copy the text out into a document you control.
  3. For each application, open the posting and your experience side by side and paste both into InstaResume. Generate resume bullets for the role, then swap them into the matching section of your base resume.
  4. Generate the cover letter the same way and export it as PDF or DOCX, whichever the application asks for.
  5. Check every line before you send it. A generated draft is a draft. Read it for anything that overstates what you did, and cut it.

Our guide on how to tailor a resume to a job description walks through step 3 in detail, including which sections to change and which to leave alone.

Enhancv alternative FAQ

Is Enhancv free?

Not permanently. Its pricing page lists a Free Plan at €0, “Valid for 7 days”, with templates, basic sections, Enhancv branding and a maximum of 12 section items. After that, it is a paid tool.

How much is Enhancv Pro?

Its pricing page title states “Starting from $16.50” as of September 2026, and the paid plan is Pro Quarterly, “billed every 3 months”. The amounts in the plan table load in the browser, so check the figure at checkout in your own currency.

Can Enhancv export to Word?

Its FAQ says resumes “download as a PDF”. If you need a DOCX, use a tool that exports one.

What is the cheapest Enhancv alternative?

For the writing step alone, InstaResume’s free tool pages cost nothing and need no account, and Pro is $9 a month. For a full builder, compare the free tiers in our Kickresume pricing and Rezi pricing guides.

Does InstaResume build the whole resume?

No. It writes the tailored parts: cover letters and resume bullet points for a specific posting. You keep your own resume document. If you have no resume yet, start with a builder, then use InstaResume for each application.

The bottom line

Enhancv is a strong design-led builder, and if you are starting from nothing it is worth its price. The reasons to leave are specific: a seven-day free window, a quarterly bill, PDF-only downloads, and paying for a builder when the work left is writing. If one of those is yours, match the alternative to the reason. For per-application writing with no clock, try InstaResume free, no sign-up needed.
