Teal Alternative in 2026: When You Need the Writing, Not the Workspace
The best Teal alternative depends on which part of Teal you actually use. If you live in its job tracker, most alternatives will feel like a step down, and you should probably stay. If you opened Teal to tailor a resume and a cover letter to one posting, and then ran out of free AI credits after an application or two, a smaller writing tool does that job for less. This guide shows what Teal gives you for free and for money as of September 2026, who should stay, and how to switch without losing anything.
Every figure about Teal below was read on tealhq.com’s own pricing page in September 2026. Pricing pages change, so check theirs before you pay.
The short verdict
| If this sounds like you | What to use | What it costs |
|---|---|---|
| You track dozens of applications and want it all in one place | Stay with Teal | Free forever, or Teal+ from $13 a week |
| You want AI writing for one posting at a time | InstaResume | 3 free a day with no account, or $9 a month |
| You want a score for how well a resume matches a job | Read our Jobscan vs Teal comparison | Varies |
| You want a stricter resume grader | Read our Rezi vs Teal comparison | Varies |
The short version: Teal is a job-search workspace, and the free plan is generous with everything except the AI writing. If writing is where you are stuck, pay for writing and keep Teal’s free tracker.
What Teal is
Teal describes itself as “the all-in-one suite of tools you need to level up your job search.” In practice that means three things sitting side by side:
- an AI resume builder with templates and a Design Mode for layout;
- a job tracker where you bookmark roles, take notes and move applications through stages;
- AI credits for resume bullets, a professional summary and cover letters.
That combination is the reason people pick it. You build a resume, attach the job description, see which keywords you are missing, and log the application, all in one tab. For a long search with many open applications, that is genuinely useful, and very few tools do both halves.
What Teal’s free plan includes, and where it stops
Teal’s pricing page lays the free tier and Teal+ side by side. Here is what it lists, as of September 2026:
| Feature | Teal free | Teal+ |
|---|---|---|
| Resumes | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Job tracking | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Resume templates | 10 | Unlimited |
| Job description keyword matching | Top 5 keywords | Unlimited |
| Resume analysis | Basic | Unlimited |
| Email templates per job stage | 1 | Unlimited |
| Design Mode | Basic settings | Advanced settings |
| AI resume bullets | 10 credits | Unlimited |
| AI professional summary | 2 credits | Unlimited |
| AI cover letters | 2 credits | Unlimited |
Read down the table and the pattern is plain. The organising features are unlimited on the free plan. The writing features are capped at a handful. Two cover letters is two applications. Ten bullets is one role on a resume, maybe two. Someone applying to ten jobs a week hits the ceiling on day one.
What Teal+ costs
Teal+ is sold in three billing periods. Teal publishes its own per-day figure next to each:
| Billing period | Price | Teal’s per-day figure |
|---|---|---|
| Every 7 days | $13 | $1.85 a day |
| Every 30 days | $29 | $0.96 a day |
| Every 90 days | $79 | $0.87 a day |
“Upgrade or downgrade your plan or cancel at any time.” (tealhq.com/pricing, September 2026)
The weekly plan is the expensive way to buy the same access. Four weeks at $13 is $52, against $29 on the 30-day plan. If you choose Teal+, pick the month or the quarter and set a reminder to cancel when the search ends. Our Teal review goes through the plan in more detail.
Why people look for a Teal alternative
Almost always it comes down to one of these:
- The free AI credits ran out. The free plan is built so you can organise a whole search, then pay once you want the writing done for you.
- The workspace is more than they need. Someone applying to a handful of jobs does not need stages, goals and email templates. They need a good cover letter for Thursday’s deadline.
- Weekly billing surprised them. $13 is the first price on the page, and it renews every seven days.
If the first two describe you, the fix is a tool that only writes, and does it for each posting.
Who should stay with Teal
This matters more than the rest of the article, because switching costs you an evening you could spend applying.
Stay with Teal if you are running a long, busy search. If you have twenty or more live applications, follow up with recruiters, and want to see every role and its status on one board, Teal’s free tracker is hard to beat and costs nothing. The keyword matching against a pasted job description is also useful, even capped at the top five on the free plan.
Stay on Teal+ if you use every part of it. At $79 for 90 days, unlimited AI writing plus the tracker plus the full template set is a fair price for someone applying daily for a quarter.
And you do not have to choose. Plenty of people keep Teal’s free plan for tracking and use a separate tool for the writing. That is often the cheapest setup of all.
InstaResume as a Teal alternative for the writing
InstaResume does one job. You paste what you have actually done, optionally paste the job posting, and it writes a cover letter or a set of resume bullets aimed at that posting in seconds. It is built so the output stays grounded in your real background: it will not invent employers, titles or numbers you did not give it, and the keywords it works in come from the posting you pasted.
What it does not do is track applications, host templates or design a resume layout. If you want those, Teal does them well.
| Feature | Teal | InstaResume |
|---|---|---|
| Main job | Job-search workspace | Tailored writing for one posting |
| Job tracker | Yes, unlimited on free | No |
| Resume builder and templates | Yes | No |
| Cover letters on the free tier | 2 AI credits | 3 a day with no account, 5 more with a free account |
| Tailoring to a job posting | Keyword matching, top 5 on free | Paste the posting, the draft uses its language |
| Credit card to start | Not required | Not required |
| Paid plan | $13 a week, $29 a month, or $79 a quarter | $9 a month for 500 generations |
| Cancel | Any time | Any time, Pro runs to the end of the paid period |
On price alone, InstaResume Pro at $9 a month is less than a third of Teal+ on its 30-day plan. That comparison is only fair for the writing, though. Teal+ also buys the tracker features and templates, and if you use those, the gap narrows.
A note on the free tiers, since that is usually why people search. InstaResume’s tool pages give 3 generations a day per device without an account, reset at midnight UTC. A free account adds 5 saved generations, granted once. Neither needs a credit card. Our pricing page lists the exact terms.
How to switch from Teal, step by step
You do not lose anything by trying this, because Teal’s free plan stays free.
- Keep your Teal account. Downgrade from Teal+ if you are paying, and leave your tracker where it is. Teal’s own page says you can cancel at any time.
- Copy the experience you already wrote. Open your best resume in Teal and copy the roles and bullets for the job you are applying to.
- Paste the job posting. Open InstaResume, paste your experience, then paste the posting into the tailoring box.
- Generate the cover letter or bullets. Read the draft, fix anything that does not sound like you, and paste it into your application.
- Log it in Teal. Your tracker still works exactly as before.
If you want a method you can use with any tool, our guide on how to tailor a resume to a job description walks through it by hand.
Other Teal alternatives worth a look
Depending on what drove you away, one of these comparisons may be a better fit:
- Huntr vs Teal if you want a different tracker rather than no tracker.
- Jobscan vs Teal if a match score is the thing you care about most.
- Rezi vs Teal if you want a resume grader that is stricter about content.
The bottom line
Teal is a strong workspace with a free plan that genuinely covers organising a search. Its limit is the writing: two free cover letters, then a subscription that starts at $13 a week. If you need a cover letter or resume bullets tailored to each posting, a writing tool is the better-fit Teal alternative, and you can keep Teal’s free tracker alongside it. If you use Teal for everything and apply daily, the 90-day plan is fair value, and you should stay.
